First Fruits Friday - Unconditional Friendship
As Christians, we are called to serve the least of these, to show compassion to those who are struggling, and to stand in the gap for those who are in need. In our community, there is a significant population of Hispanic moms and their children who are facing numerous challenges and struggles. As believers, we have a unique opportunity to make a difference in their lives and to demonstrate the love and kindness of Jesus.
When we serve, we are witnessing our love for God and our neighbor (Mark 12:30-31). Serving is also a way to show respect for the dignity and worth of every human being. Each person is created in the image of God and deserves to be treated with kindness and compassion. Also in Matthew 25:31-40, Jesus teaches us that when we serve the "least of these," we are serving Him. This includes serving the poor, the hungry, the stranger, and the marginalized.
Seneca currently serves 36 Hispanic moms and their children. These mothers had come to our doors in their hour of great need. They are an easy prey for the abortion industry because they are often overlooked and face numerous challenges, including limited access to healthcare, education, and job opportunities. Also, the language barriers and cultural differences make it difficult for them to access resources and services. By serving these women, we help alleviate some of their burdens and provide them with hope and assistance when facing an unplanned pregnancy. Serving these moms is not only a privilege to us, but it is also a necessity, as they are vulnerable and the abortion clinic next door seizes on this and takes advantage.
Last week, Seneca hosted our “Amistad Incondicional” (Unconditional Friendship) Hispanic moms’ group. We had the monthly potluck where we shared our stories, we did a devotional and prayed together. After the meeting, these moms also had the opportunity to obtain baby supplies. For these moms we are their family in this country, someone they can count on. Seneca is a place where they find kindness and a sense of belonging and connection. Most importantly, they know they are loved. Unconditionally.
By serving these families, we can demonstrate the love and kindness of Jesus, and help alleviate some of the challenges they are facing. Let us rise up as believers and show compassion to those who are struggling. Together, we can make a difference in our community and bring glory to God.
