First Fruits Friday - In the midst of her storm, she sought HIM…

A 19-year-old with her 1-year-old moved to Columbus looking for a new future - one with no family or friends around. Shortly after, she learned she was pregnant and came to Seneca, and asked for a pre-abortion screening.  She wanted to know how far along her pregnancy was.

When she came, she spoke with one of our sidewalk advocates and went for an ultrasound in the mobile clinic.  She does not believe in abortion, but she felt scared, stressed, and also some significant family pressure. Her mom and grandmother were facilitating the funds to have an abortion.  Her mom had aborted her sibling in the past. She mentioned, “Maybe that brother or sister would have been the one who was helping me now.”

She has a work-from-home job, but several bills are overdue. She’s trying to work while taking care of her son and is feeling quite stressed and tired.  She did reach out for help and became a Seneca client.  We are currently helping to stabilize her crisis situation.

On a Saturday, two weeks after her first ultrasound, she was feeling very stressed and doubted her decision to keep her new baby.  She asked for another ultrasound. The earliest available appointment was Monday. In her desperation and stress, I suggested she go to church while she waited out the couple of days before her next ultrasound. There is a church very close to where she lives. She was hesitant about the idea because she did not have “church clothes.” Yet, she went!

In the middle of a crisis - alone and pregnant, with her heart full of doubts, scared and stressed, she put on her sweatpants and went to church with her year-old son.

I admire her strength, for putting herself together that morning and going to church on that difficult day. She sought our Lord in the midst of her storm, with faith that He brings blessings, comfort, and help to those who are close to Him.
