First Fruits Friday - Call to Action
Sidewalk Reflection by our Sidewalk Program Manager:
This past Saturday was an abortion day. There were 27 women who had appointments next door. Most of these women were dropped off or drove themselves, but there was one who did not. Her mom brought her and sat outside to wait while she went in to end the life of her unborn child.
We attempted to talk to both the patient as well as the mom. However, they were not interested in speaking to us. The mom sat in the car for several hours, until one of the abortion workers came out and asked her to move her car so another patient could park. I motioned to her that she could park in our parking lot. I saw this as an opportunity to be able to connect with her. She took me up on my offer and parked here at Seneca.
I approached her window to offer her a cold beverage and a snack to break the ice. She accepted and we began talking about the heat and how she had been waiting since 7:40 that morning and was growing tired. This was around 10:30-11:00 and the abortionist still had not arrived. She told me they assured them on the phone that they would be finished by 11:30 that day. She also had a small child in the car with her, who was the son of the woman having an abortion. I then began to ask her what relation she was to the young lady who was inside the abortion facility. She explained she was her mom, and then expressed to me that she did not want her to go through with the abortion. Here was my window….
I explained to her how the abortion workers minimize what really happens to a woman’s body during a chemical abortion. She said that she knew they were being dishonest. I shared with her about Seneca and the resources we offer. I offered for her to bring the little one inside out of the heat to be able to play in the air conditioning and for her to shop in the boutique for any of his needs. After a while she took me up on the offer, all the while stating that she wanted to go and get her daughter out of the abortion facility. I told her to go and knock on the door and get her out of there, yet all she would do was talk about it and never put it into action.
Time went on and as of 12:00, the abortionist still had not arrived. The mom grew frustrated and stated she was going to go knock on the door and get her daughter out of there. I urged her to do so, and reiterated that it was not too late, as the abortionist still had not arrived. I even told her about the Abortion Reversal Pill, so that if she went through with the first pill there was still hope.
She never did go try to convince her daughter to leave the facility. In her heart I believe she wanted to, but Satan had done just enough to convince her that it was her daughter’s decision alone. She sat back and did not act. This woman has been on my mind all weekend. I’ve been thinking that if she had simply gone and talked to her daughter, the outcome could have been drastically different. She could have been welcoming another grand baby into the world in a few short months.
The Lord calls us to be doers of his word and not hearers only. We are called to act on what we believe and to stand for His truth. We are not to sit on the sidelines and say, “Well, it isn’t my life.” or, “I have nothing to do with that, why should I interfere?”
What are you doing to put your pro-life call into action? Are you sitting on the sidelines because you feel you won’t make a difference or are you acting in faith and allowing the Lord to use you for His glory?
