First Fruits Friday - God's Plan

Recently while I was covering the front desk, a mother came into Seneca.  Coincidentally, she only spoke Spanish. When she saw me she knew immediately I was a Latina and asked if she could get an appointment to get the abortion pill. When she came through the door she was desperate and wanted to get her pregnancy over with. I said to her, "We do the pre-abortion screening and we can absolutely schedule an appointment for you."  She kept asking if we could give her the pill and I responded,  "In order for you to get the pill we need to know what's going on with your body."  I continued explaining to her what the pre-abortion screening was.

Our patient was very desperate because she was recently involved in a car accident and lost her car. She was unemployed and a single mother of three. In her mind she couldn't see a way out of her situation, other than having an abortion. For her, it was just not the right time!  She repeatedly told me that she couldn't bring this baby into this world.  She was alone with her three kids, the father of the baby wanted her to have the abortion claiming that the baby wasn't his, and she could've been sleeping with someone else. She was devastated and couldn't see a way out, the only solution for her was to have an abortion.  After further back and forth sharing, I was able to book her an appointment for the following week with the mobile clinic.

She went home and came back for her appointment the following week. As she explained earlier when she came to her appointment the previous week, many things had happened to her during the time she waited for her appointment with us.  One encounter, in particular, really hit home:  She had gone to a store and a lady approached her and insisted to her that she couldn't have the abortion. She was in shock!  Another moment deeply resonated with her:  The night before her appointment her son looked at her and told her that she looked different and that she was going to have a baby. She denied that she was pregnant and had merely gained some weight.  But, her son insisted that she had a baby in her womb.

She told me that she believed she was receiving a message from God saying that she had to accept this new life in her. Upon having her ultrasound, she learned that she was too far along to take the abortion pill here in Columbus.

I asked her how she was feeling and if she were still considering abortion.  She answered, "I think God is telling me to have this baby. With the things that happened to me, especially the lady that told me that I couldn't have the abortion, it was a sign that I shouldn't do this."  She then confirmed to me that she was going to continue with her pregnancy and raise this child by herself, just as she'd been doing with her other three children.  She asserted, "It is God's will. If he wants me to have this baby, I will have it.”

I was astounded, and incredibly grateful, to witness her faith-filled change of heart. It was absolutely a miracle.  This is what Seneca is all about.  Thank you to all who support our mission!  Thanks be to God.
