First Fruits Friday - Finding the Right Fit
When I came to Seneca in December of last year, seeking to volunteer, I thought I’d be folding baby clothes and inventorying diapers.
As it happened, the front desk position - the Administrative Specialist job, was open and Amber and Karen encouraged me to apply for it. I had come to Seneca with friends the previous Spring to pray during 40 Days for Life. That was really all the exposure I’d had to this pro-life organization.
Upon applying for the admin job, Karen encouraged me to come during an abortion day to pray and get a feel for what Seneca was all about. I remember coming in that day and being greeted by Pollyanna & Angie in the parking lot. Their beaming, beautiful faces told me I was in the right place.
As I took in the atmosphere that day, I was struck by how heavy the air felt. The decisions of the women going into the clinic next door were being felt by all who were on the Sidewalk that day—even by me—the newbie. The Scripture about the war being waged in Spiritual Realms hovered in my thoughts and my heart. Ephesians 6:12 “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”
I felt like God had directed my steps to Seneca. When I accepted the position and began work, I was encouraged and I was challenged. I learned how to speak with women in crisis and how to meet them where they are - just as Christ meets us where we are. Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His love for us in this, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
It has been an amazing 6 months here at Seneca. As my husband and I move on to our next duty station, I will take the love and compassion that I have seen and felt at Seneca, and continue working to make abortion unthinkable.
