First Fruits Friday - Esperanza

Esperanza is the Spanish word for Hope

Seneca is blessed to have several volunteers and staff members who speak Spanish. This has allowed our team to minister to mothers in two languages, further extending our reach in the community. Many of our Spanish speaking clients come to Seneca by word of mouth. Like most of our clients, these women have experienced unimaginable trauma. They struggle to trust others, and many have lost hope that there are good people in the world. We aim to help them find renewed hope through Christ’s love and providence.

One volunteer recently shared how the women she brought to Seneca were impacted:

“ There are 4 mothers that I took to Seneca last year to receive help. They are all migrants, 1 is from El Salvador and 3 from Honduras. Their stories are an example of how much suffering, violence and pure evil is in this world. They have lived situations that are beyond our imagination. They, mom and children, for the most part of their lives, have not received any act of kindness,  and they have been just surviving.

But one day they went to Seneca. Met with The Case Manager who offered help, with kind volunteers and staff members. They felt loved for the first time; they felt welcome; they felt safe. All of them have expressed to me how grateful they are with Seneca for all the help, the advice, the supplies, the love, the good times in the events and all of the helpful information. All these moms’ spirits were lifted with all these acts of kindness. Now, they are embracing their future knowing that good people do exist and God is taking care of them through these good people.

Thank you SENECA team, you are doing a job that impacts even more than you imagine. You are saving and changing lives forever.”

Our vision at Seneca is to “create a culture of hope (Esperanza) where the beauty of life is celebrated and healing is received”. What a gift it is to be able to offer that esperanza to both English and Spanish speaking mothers in our community.
