First Fruits Friday - Made Whole
One of our goals for clients in Seneca’s Case Management Program is to be healthy. At Seneca, we take a holistic approach to our clients’ health. This means supporting clients in their physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental health. It also means learning about and pursuing healthy boundaries and healthy relationships. Knowing their own worth and understanding their bodies.
Most people don't know that 12% of American households are single moms. These moms are twice as likely to experience mental health concerns. Thankfully, 72% obtain health care. Still, there are many hurdles that keep both single and married moms from pursuing consistent counseling. Sometimes, they don’t have transportation or childcare. Other times, they do not trust that they can be honest or they do not feel safe in the office.
We are fortunate at Seneca to have a volunteer professional counselor on site to help our clients with some of their counseling needs. Since she began offering her services, her calendar has been completely booked for months in advance. Our clients have shared how helpful it is to have her at Seneca where they already feel safe and know they can trust us. Often, their counseling appointments are scheduled around their Case Management appointments to make the logistics a bit easier.
Many of our clients have experienced unimaginable childhood trauma, from watching a parent shoot and kill the other, to incest, human trafficking to neglect. Often, it takes years to begin to see how these wounds are affecting their everyday life. Depression is the most common issue for our clients, and we see it repeatedly with those struggling to parent, as well as those experiencing miscarriage, stillbirth or abortion.
Seneca is a place of hope and healing. Our vision is to “create a culture of hope where the beauty of life is celebrated and healing is received”. This means that we also offer a supplemental healing program for women and men who have experienced any loss of a child.
In addition to healing, we also offer classes on Fertility Awareness and Body Literacy. These classes, one on one discussions, and even phone apps, help clients dive deeper into the beauty of their bodies and fertility. Each client is encouraged to learn about her cycles, thus empowering her to understand her fertility and support her in avoiding another unplanned pregnancy. Most importantly, this sheds light on God’s perfect design of her body and her inherent dignity, empowering her to choose relationships that truly value her worth.
We are so grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside these mothers and assist them in being “made whole” (also the name of our mother support group).
Let's celebrate women, encourage them, educate and empower them to be the beautiful daughters of Christ and wonderful women they were made to be. Will you join us? Click here to donate to help us continue offering these free programs to our clients.
