First Fruits Friday - Kindness & Compassion

Today, one of our staff got to witness something pretty wonderful. Prior to a routine lab workup, an older woman struggled at check-in. The staff said that she could not get her lab work because her medical bill was outstanding. She just stood there shaking. Clearly she was suffering from some type of illness.

As she began to walk away, a professional gentleman came up and asked, "What does she owe?" When the staff told him, he paid it - on the spot. He left. The staff hurried after the woman and told her that her bill had been taken care of and that she could complete the lab work. This brought on tears from our staff person! The kindness exhibited is powerful proof that God's love does prevail.

Kindness and compassion are what we all aim to give here at Seneca. It is not always easy.  One requirement we insist upon is that a given client work through our client management program if they are to receive benefits.  Among Seneca's core goals is to make sure that the clients become self-sustaining. If they are not yet prepared to get on the road to improving their lives, they are encouraged to contact us once they are ready.  We are always gratified when this happens.

During the critical period from discovering one is pregnant, until the baby is two years of age, kindness and accountability go hand in hand. By flooding our clients with prayer, resources, supplies and services such as spiritual direction and counseling, we ensure that Seneca clients can thrive. There is only one thing we ask in return - pay the kindness forward. If you ever come to learn of any person who experiences an unplanned pregnancy, kindly send them to us. Currently, we are serving two women who were referred to us by former clients who were themselves once determined to have an abortion. Perhaps kindness is simply a gift that keeps on giving.
