First Fruits Friday - Postpartum
Proverbs 17:17:
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
If you have ever experienced postpartum or have known of someone who has gone through it, you realize that it is different from baby blues. Seneca clients are at higher risks for postpartum depression. A lack of support, bills, other kids, continual health issues for themselves, and the new baby put an enormous amount of stress on the new mom. Any mom has a tough time the first few months, but with an added plethora of stresses, one can easily break.
This condition with one of our clients was observed by our volunteer lactation consultant. This is what the client shared: "Hey I have been struggling since having her (baby girl) with, I guess, it’s postpartum depression. I’m not exactly sure but I have been crying literally everyday and I just need prayers more than anything because I hate feeling like this. I noticed that I was thinking about having to leave her to go to work eventually is what makes my anxiety and depression so bad. I don't know what to do." Our trained consultant quickly had the client contact her doctor.
Due to the postpartum and medical issues after the delivery, the client lost her job and then her car. The only thing that gave her peace was prayer. "I kept on praying about my postpartum. I am giving it to HIM. I feel a sense of calmness even though everything is falling apart." Seneca staff and volunteers also continued to pray for her.
Now the baby girl is three months of age. The client received medical attention for her condition and Seneca staff continues to meet with her. She found a full time job while she awaits the training for the medical assistant job she wants. She also got her car back and is paying back a family member for the impound. She is on the road to recovery. She felt supported and loved from us simply caring about her.
Sometimes, we recognize the brother born from adversity. Thanks be to God.
