First Fruits Friday - Purpose Through The Pain

1 Peter 2:9

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of the darkness into His wonderful light.

Have you ever wondered what your purpose in life is? We can call ourselves Christians, but what does that mean? If it is to love and serve others - how do we do this? Mother Theresa said that the world would be a better place if we smile and take care of our families. At Seneca, we greet all with a smile and our purpose in case management is to help clients establish and maintain healthy families. Yet we often fall short due to lack of personnel or resources.

Many of the dedicated staff and volunteers at Seneca are serving because of their own personal backgrounds. We have volunteers who serve because they experienced abortion many years ago and strive to help other women facing that decision to consider other options. Sometimes, advocates simply don’t want others to go through the pain of choosing abortion. Some serve on the healing team for families to process their decision, even if it were 40 years ago.

Recently at a local church, the pastor said, “Living in your pain DISTRACTS you from your purpose.” God uses us all even through the choices that we make which lead us to that pain. We can all be a piece of handiwork in the quilt of life. We can give him the pain so that we can get to work on our purpose.

Seneca is a place where you may find purpose and gain a measure of freedom from your pain. We have needs of volunteers to clean, pray, babysit, restock the boutique, call clients to check in on them, visit new moms in the hospital, listen to bereaved mothers experiencing miscarriage, lead our clients into a deeper spiritual connection with God, educate and support a mom suffering from postpartum, be a cheerleader for clients who are going to school and beginning new jobs. These and more are opportunities await you to take a step from your pain and to give to the Lord in the only way YOU CAN. No one knows your story like you do. Won’t you be part of the masterpiece of God’s handiwork by serving others and discovering your purpose?
