First Fruits Friday - Scholarship
At Seneca, we first work with clients on their critical issues which brought them to the abortion facility. Once we have helped establish stable housing, prenatal care, employment, etc. we begin working with these individuals on a life coaching basis to move them from struggling to survive to a place of thriving in their lives.
For the past year, two of our clients, both with bachelor of science degrees in healthcare administration, have participated in the Voices for Healthy Georgia fellowship program. Seneca urged both to apply for this prestigious program. This is where community-centered healthcare advocates are trained within the West Central/SwGA regions of Georgia's healthcare landscape, to deal with issues related to health disparities, and other culturally relevant topics around health, wellness, and access.
Recently they went on a field trip. This is what one of the participants had to say:
"It was great! We attended legislative session training, where we were able to march for transit justice where I got the opportunity to meet very prominent members of the Senate, the House, and the Biden and Warnock administrations. We also attended the human right museum, definitely a powerful moment and a walk down memory lane." This client is a CNA and is still searching for a full-time job to utilize her bachelor’s degree.
The other client stated, "It was a good program. I got to meet a lot of different people." This client is now taking prerequisites to become an LPN. She plans to start at CVCC in January of 2024. The life coaching and case management teams are working with her to secure scholarships, possible part-time jobs to work around her classes, and daycare.
Helping our clients understand that God wants abundance for them is actually a process. Because of previous trauma, most women do not believe that they deserve to be loved by God. Nor do they believe they deserve to be happy and fulfilled. Having the women take steps toward their goals is one way that Seneca attempts to help them fulfill God's mission for them.
