First Fruits Friday - On The Move

At Seneca, we meet many of our clients on the sidewalk as they are headed into their abortion appointment. Still, we pray that women will find us BEFORE they schedule an abortion appointment and have a chance to speak with our team about how we can help. Sometimes we get requests for services from pregnant women on our Facebook page or website or just a simple phone call.  Our Case Management Team has had so many life saving conversations beginning this way.

Recently a sweet, young mom named Trisha* called Seneca. At the age of 19, she was facing an unplanned pregnancy and impending homelessness. She and her boyfriend were excited about the baby, but the circumstances of their lives made them very vulnerable to choosing abortion.

Trisha explained about her tough situation. She was timid and downtrodden. She was 2 tests short of getting her GED. She had been working at home, but now she had no home. She had reached out to other organizations with no avail. She didn’t want to leave one toxic environment for another. She needed help.

After discussing her entire situation, Seneca’s Case Manager gave her three options:

  1. A maternity home,

  2. continue with the public housing application,

  3. live in a shared housing situation.

She promised to discuss these options with her boyfriend, and ended the conversation knowing that our team was here to help with whichever they chose.

Seneca heard back from Trisha today, and we are excited to share her news:

"I’ve come to tell you that my boyfriend and I talked. We have decided to apply for public housing assistance. I have gotten a copy of my birth certificate from my mom, and I am getting the paperwork today. I have also contacted Columbus Tech, and I am setting up orientation to take the last two tests for my GED. We signed up for more jobs as well, as we are with a job helping agency, Better Works, to help us. "

Trisha is on the move. She is actively pursuing a better future by working with local agencies to get to the next step. With a roof over her head, she can work from home again while dealing with some complications of the pregnancy.  She is studying for her GED tests, and is working with a local agency that helps with resumes, career assessments, and finding employment. Her boyfriend will finish high school online and plans to join the military in December.  Just being teens themselves, this young couple is determined to make the best life for their child. Our Seneca team is honored to walk with her during her pregnancy and beyond.

Please keep this family in your prayers!
