First Fruits Friday - A Matter of Life
No woman ever chooses to be a single mom. Life events, poor choices made with irrefutable consequences, past trauma and a deep distrust of others, and even the death of a spouse reels one to a state of disorientation. This a feeling that many of our clients who come to us on the brink of an abortion are feeling.
Some mothers are heartbroken once they tell the father of the baby that they are pregnant. Many times, the father says "It ain't mine" or "Get rid of it" or "I'll give you money if I ever have some, but I want nothing to do with you" or "It ain't even a life". These women, who once thought they were on solid ground, now see themselves sinking in the sand.
Imagine if you were pregnant and the people who surround you kept telling you to "get an abortion", "now you have really screwed up your life" or "you can't even take care of yourself, how are you going to take care of a baby?" This bombardment of comments leads one to hide, run away and take care of the "mistake" as quickly as possible. One of the worst responses is "I'll support you whatever YOU decide." That is simply an abdication of responsibility and puts MORE weight on the mother's shoulders. She is already feeling burdened. If she knew she had support/love/encouragement, abortion could be the last thing on her mind.
When these women enter Seneca, we simply listen. All of their stories and circumstances are different, but one thing that they have in common is the lack of true knowledge of God. Even though 73% identify as Christians, they forget that Jesus, the Savior, died for their sins. They are in the midst of a spiritual battle, and many times are hearing more lies than Truth.
One of the father's of a baby aborted last week said, "Well, it's God's will that this be done."
That is NOT true, and we spoke to him about it.
"No, God is the CREATOR. He does not propose death for a baby. This baby is alive. It is the devil that came here to kill, steal, and destroy. You may be getting guidance from the wrong entity."
The young man looked down and would no longer speak to us. His girlfriend, a future teacher who already has a job lined up said, "It's just not the right time." Unfortunately, we see and hear this all too often. We are on the front lines of the battle for life, and many times we did not have the chance to speak to these women before they were in this situation.
Each of us at Seneca is always praying for ways to do more BEFORE a mother is caught in this situation. It’s not often that there are ways to reach a large crowd about the Truth of life and what abortion really is. Luckily, more and more folks in the entertainment industry are beginning to tell the truth.
Unplanned is a movie that talks about that. It is the story of a woman who has unplanned pregnancies and the decisions she made. It is also about redemption, forgiveness and how our test can become our testimony. A new documentary, A Matter of Life, is a movie that is coming to theaters May 16-17, 2022. It asks the question, "Are the unborn one of us?"
This is a wonderful chance to support an effort in prevention. The more we talk about the truth of abortion, the more people will be spared from the lies that are so easy to believe in a time of crisis.
